Questions & Answers about Body Waxing

December 21, 2008 | Leave a Comment

by Charlotte Field

Body waxing has become one of the most requested services at salons across the country. Why? Compared to other hair removal methods, waxing is more affordable and very safe. If you have never experience waxing before, you are going to have some questions about what to expect. The following is a sample of questions most often asked before a schedule of body waxing is begun. The information applies whether you’re planning to have your bikini, your back, face, or legs waxed.

Q. What length does the hair on my body have to be to get a successful wax?

If you want good results, you’ll want to stop shaving for about 2 or 3 weeks, or until your hair grows to about 1/4″. This may be a bit irritating, just ignoring your hair growth, but the process works a lot better if the wax has something to hold on to. A little bit of discomfort while letting your hair grow will pay off with better results.

Q. Is there anything I need to know to prepare my skin for waxing?

You must have no sun exposure for the 48 hours prior to waxing. About 2 or 3 days before you come in for the waxing, lightly exfoliate the area to be waxed, using any exfoliator that you would typically use on your body. Don’t over-scrub, just as you would gently exfoliate your face. On the day of your waxing, be sure you thoroughly cleanse the area being waxed, but do not exfoliate, and do not apply any oils, lotions, powders, perfumes, etc.

Q. How much discomfort or pain will the actual waxing procedure cause me?

To be perfectly honest, there will be some pain and discomfort during the first waxing visit. However, each appointment after that will become easier, due to the simple fact that there is less hair to remove each time. Pain threshold is different for each person, so it is hard to estimate the degree of discomfort that any one person will experience. It is certainly not extremely painful, but your level of pain tolerance will be something that you and your esthetician can and should discuss before beginning the waxing procedure. Avoid waxing during times that your skin is stressed for whatever reason. One such time is during your period, which has been shown to be a time that your skin is more sensitive.

Q. If I’m having a bikini wax, can I leave my panties on?

Your panties can remain on, if you choose. However, your esthetician will provide you with disposable underwear if you would like to be covered, but don’t want your own panties to accidentally come in contact with any wax. Ask your esthetician before you begin what you need to know about a bikini wax and what to expect during the waxing procedure. Before you begin is the time to discuss the actual bikini line you want the waxing to follow on your body. Keep in mind that any time you feel uncomfortable during a bikini wax procedure, you should let your esthetician know that you’ll need to stop for a moment. If you feel uncomfortable with the procedure or your esthetician isn’t willing to listen to you, you’ll want to stop the waxing service and find another, more professional, esthetician.

Q. After the waxing is over, do I need to baby my skin?

Treat your skin to a little rest and relaxation for about 48 hours after the waxing. As before the waxing, avoid the sun for at least 24 hours, and definitely stay our of any tanning bed for 48 hours or more. Just like before waxing, stay away from any lotions, powders, perfumes, and especially any product that contains scents and/or alcohol. They both will set up a real burning sting on your delicate skin.

Q. How long will I be able to go between waxings before I see hair growing in again?

Depending on how long you’ve been maintaining a waxing routine and how fast your hair normally grows, you could be relatively hairless for anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. The longer you’ve been waxing at regularly scheduled visits, the longer your hair will take to reappear. However, during the first 3 sessions, most people experience rather unnerving hair growth that was not expected. Hair actually grows in cycles; so the hair you see today is removed but there is hair under the surface that is waiting until tomorrow or the day after to make an appearance. After about the 3rd waxing, you’ll notice that we’ve caught up with your scattered hair growing intervals, and now all the hair has had a chance to be removed at least once. Now each waxing should result in fewer hairs, and longer times between waxing appointments.

Still deciding if you want to start waxing instead of shaving? Do you find yourself constantly wondering when you shaved last, or have way too many occasions when you wanted to wear shorts but had to wear slacks because you forgot to shave? When you’re at the beach or pool, do you find yourself constantly readjusting your swimsuit to hide those stragglers that keep peeking out? Waxing may be your answer. Once you establish a routine with your esthetician for waxing, you won’t ever want to see a razor again. Give your esthetician a call today to schedule a consultation.

Thank Heaven for Liposuction

Sometimes working out and dieting just does not budge that stubborn cellulite. In this case, the only other available option may be liposuction, a surgery that gets rid of cellulite for good. Liposuction is a popular way to beat this stubborn fat, though the procedure itself can seem rather frightening.

A bit of fat here and there should not bother us. Okay, why not go for some honesty. It can drive you mad. For women, it is the thigh area. For men, the love handles. Removing these pockets of fat can do a world of good for your mental outlook.

Liposuction can be applied to the arms, neck, hips, thighs, abs, face, buttocks, and back. Though liposuction will not completely change the look of your body, it will get rid of some of those last few pounds. If you are going to seek out this type of surgery, make sure to find a qualified surgeon.

Liposuction should only be performed by a plastic surgeon. It is a surgical procedure, which means there are proper techniques involved. Sloppy work can lead to real problems including infection, bruising and even serious complications.

The actual procedure is surprisingly straightforward. An insertion is made in the skin in the impacted area. A tube is then inserted and the cellulite fat is sucked out of the area. This brunt force approach explains why it is a good way to deal with specific areas of cellulite.

The nature of liposuction is such that it causes trauma to the body. Even though we are talking about fat, it is a part of the body being removed. This can cause complications. Most are just bruising, but infection, embolisms and even toxic shock can occur in isolated cases.

Every case is different including yours. You should always go through a detailed discussion of the risks and benefits with your surgeon prior to making any decisions. The vast majority of liposuction cases go fine, but know what you are getting into.

Getting rid of fat deposits can be an absolute bear. With liposuction, it is not a problem. Isolated pockets of cellulite simply do not stand a chance. Within an hour of going into surgery, that cellulite will be history.

Ah, but what about afterwards? Well, you are going to be sore. Really sore. Still, the doctor will give you some pain medications and the soreness should be gone in a few days. Then it is just you, the mirror and your beautiful body sans cellulite!

What is the best wrinkle treatment?

As human beings, aging is inevitable. All of us tend to grow old and age constantly as the years pass by. As the skin is exposed daily in the direct sunlight, pollutions, and chemicals, the wrinkles also become visible in our skin, especially on our face and neck.

Today, the markets are flooded with various wrinkle treatments to tackle this problem. Besides facelift, there are many other ways to make the skin around face and neck tighter and to bring back the former charm.

The texture and the fineness of the skin change as it gets older. This is because the dead skin cells are not removed from the skin and may block the new skin from coming out. The longer the dead skin cells stay on the skin, the older the skin appears. Skin needs to be rejuvenated in order to make the skin looks improved and young again. Wrinkle treatments can do the work of eliminating the excess fats and sagging of the skin that makes your skin look older.

Kinds of Wrinkle Treatments Available:

1) Among the first in treating wrinkles is laser treatment or laser resurfacing. The treatment uses laser to remove the dynamic wrinkles resulted from facial lines and facial expressions. This will help the skin get its glow once again.

This kind of wrinkle treatment will not last a lifetime or even a year. The treatment will remove the wrinkles but the wrinkles are expected to come back after a couple of months as an effect of daily facial expressions that are impossible to avoid. A follow up laser treatment is essential to maintain the freshness of the skin without the spots of wrinkles.

Laser treatment eliminates dead skin cells in the skin surface resulting to a finer and tighter skin. The skin tone will also even out after the treatment leaving your skin with a fair complexion. Skin cells cannot automatically do the replacement on its own way. Another laser treatment is required after six months to fully remove the damage.

2) Facelift is also a kind of treatment for wrinkles. It is a surgical procedure done to remove excess fatty tissues and to tighten facial muscles. The procedure is painful so it requires anesthesia to lessen the pains. This is done by separating the skin from the tissue. The fats are removed and the skin is pulled back to tighten it and to produce younger looking skin without the trace of time. Like laser treatment, facelift is also temporary. It requires another procedure after a certain period of time.

3) Botox, collagen injection, chemical peels, dermabrasion, Thermage, anti-wrinkle creams, and other products for wrinkle treatments are available in any dermatology clinic. These products are being advertised and offered in the market today. These products contain elements that help the skin get rid of wrinkles as caused by UV rays or other pollutants. The procedure may also take repetition since wrinkles are bound to come back after a period of time.

Rid yourself of Wrinkles

Who does not want to look younger? Wrinkles on the skin always prevent a person from looking younger. Wrinkles tell us that old age has set in. Taking into consideration the fact that the human body requires the optimum amount of nutrients, it is obvious that a lack of these nutrients or vitamins result in aging of skin and formation of wrinkles.

The right amount of nutrition gives the skin a well toned look. A wrinkle or age line is a noticeable crease on the facial skin. It is the result of aging and improper nutrient intake. Wrinkles in combination with folds of the skin make the facial features unappealing.

Today, people are caught up in the rat race, and as a result they fail to take care of their bodies. A young skin tends to have enough fat tissue to make the face well-rounded. But as a person gets older, the shrinking fat tissue cannot keep up with the growth rate of the skin, giving the facial skin a shriveled look.

As a person grows older, the skin gets thinner. Moreover, the worries of life and the physical exertion that one goes through take its toll on the skin. Creases begin to appear and the skin no longer remains flexible. The cheekbones show through the thinning skin.

In response to the movement of facial joints during activities like chewing, the face muscles move and tend to subject the facial skin to expansion and contraction, thus causing wrinkling. A less tedious schedule in combination with proper recreation will give your facial skin proper space to revitalize.

To counter aging, there is a vast array of beauty products in the market. Sunscreen not only protects your skin as you move around, it also prevents aging that occurs due to harsh weather conditions. Skin cleansers clean the pores that can gather substances that irritate the skin. The dull look of an uneven skin due to dryness can be countered by a moisturizer. Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA) or fruit acids detach dead skin deposited on the surface leaving your skin smooth and glowing. Apart from all these cosmetics, one thing that really helps wrinkles to stay away is facial exercise. Facial exercise keeps the face muscles well toned giving the skin a firmer look and a younger feel.

According to scientific research, our cell refresh rate decreases as we grow older. This means that the rate at which our cells renew themselves, reduces with age. Due to this slowing renewal rate, the skin becomes dull, dry and uneven. It holds less water and therefore gets dehydrated and develops wrinkles.

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, and one cannot do much to retard their formation after a particular age. But medical science has been quite successful in formulating creams to smooth off or even retard the formation wrinkles. Beauty creams are available with DNA and RNA ingredients to optimize skin tone and give it firmness. Some companies have developed creams with collagen and elastin in order to fill wrinkles and give the facial skin a lift. Collagen and elastin being natural proteins which help build skin structure; these skin-care products actually stimulate the production of natural collagen and elastin, thus rejuvenating the skin. Some products also use ceramides for hydrating the skin and hyaluronic acid to give the skin volume, avoiding shrinking and wrinkling of the skin.

From Shoes to Boots - The Women Shoes For Action

Looking for specific styles at local shoe stores can be iffy. The shoes online offer the discount deals especially on the traditional sales holidays.

Many inexpensive footwear stores are upping their choice of designer shoes and support large inventories of sizes as well as styles. Many of the popular shoe and boot sizes disappear off the shelves at customary brick and mortar stores. Discount shoe stores at online locations often carry your size and style.

One caution when it comes to purchasing shoes online is to see if they sanction for free shipping and return shipping just in case you need a larger or smaller size. The larger inventory stores allow for free exchange.

To spot fashion trends, look at the magazine ads and what men shoes or women boots the models are wearing. Look for ladies shoes that are advertised or worn in People or similar magazines that portray what Hollywood stars are currently wearing.

In women’s shoe styles, purple seems to be a well-liked ruling color. Metallic high heels, gold pumps and flats are catching a popular pulse. Exotic animal prints and peep-toe cut outs are getting the fashion nod as well.

Kitten heeled shoes sport a lower heel and are easy to walk in. With their 1.5 inch heel they are not completely flat and allow for a minimum of toe pinching. They are available in a rainbow of colors and fit well with both skirts and jeans.

For women to complete their wardrobe, they need to balance a mix of high heels with more comfortable shoes. Higher heeled shoes have been a source of ankle injury and falls are common. High heel overuse can result in orthopedic procedures, besides bunions and sore feet.

To be safe, heels should not be more than 1 or 2 inches high. To be stylish you need to mix and match footwear to balance your allure. Not only is it sensible, it’s healthier for you and your foot.
