Why Adding Variety is Important When Preparing Food
December 23, 2008 | Leave a Comment
If you have small children, you probably already know that it can be a real chore to feed them. This is especially true if they are picky about what food they will and will not eat. It is important to ensure your children get enough nutrition from their food and luckily, there are ways of convincing them to eat even if they don’t want to. It is a good idea to have a few favorite dishes on standby, such as crockpot chicken noodle soup, hotdogs, pizza, homemade chicken noodle soup, and chicken nuggets with cheesy mashed potatoes.
Even though it may be a chore, when you are preparing dinner, prepare several different dishes so your child has choice of what he or she wants. You could try asking them what they are in the mood for on occasion to get a guaranteed winner night with no fitting over them eating anything let alone enough.
Your child should be encouraged to take a bite of everything you make, regardless of whether he likes the look of it or not. A lot of children will state, “I don’t like that,” when looking at a dish they have never even tried. If you get your child to sample everything, they will usually like the dish in question and ask for second helpings.
Another way to encourage small children to try different foods is to name the food with the name of their favorite fictional or cartoon character. Harry Potter Pancakes or Garfield Lasagna will get a smile from your child and they will probably tuck in, just because of the name. Children identify with shows they enjoy and if they think they are eating their favorite cartoon foods, they will probably eat all their meal.
Making dishes that are colorful and fun is a great way to encourage a finicky eater to actually eat. When you use bright and colorful ingredients such as green, yellow and red bell peppers, and give the dish a name like Christmas casserole, or if you make a veggie lasagna and call it Diego’s delight, you will have a better chance of a having a peaceful dinner.
Children know when they like and if you present something, which looks boring, they won’t be keen to try it. They don’t understand or care about nutrition either so it is up to you to make sure your child gets enough.
If you enjoy cooking, you can let your child help you with meal preparation. If they feel like part of the cooking process, they will be happier to eat the results. Children would prefer homemade chicken noodle soup to “the stuff in the white and red can.”
If you know your child does not like a particular ingredient, you can grind it in the food processor while they are not looking. They won’t be able to taste it in the finished meal.
When you are feeding your child, sometimes you will need to use alternative ingredients or different methods. The main thing to remember is that when dealing with kids, you do need a certain amount of flexibility. The chicken noodle soup your child would never eat before can become his favorite if you let him help you prepare it and give it a cartoon name.
Fast Weight Loss - Are Weight Loss Pills Safe?
December 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment
When you are putting together a plan to lose weight, you will find that there are many occasions when weight loss pills are a part of it. These pills can be instrumental in helping you lose the weight that has been creeping on to you over an extended period of time, and you will discover that it can be part of a weight loss plan, just like a better exercise program. When you are looking to use weight loss pills, you’ll find that they can complement a good exercise program, but you have to think about whether not they are safe.
Some weight loss pills contain only herbal or natural ingredients. These work by curbing the appetite and some also include dietary supplements and multi vitamins which can psychologically help a dieter. In addition to the weight loss pills, the dieter will need to watch what they eat, make sure their portions are reasonably sized and get more exercise.
What about chemical or synthetic pills of the non-natural variety - how safe are those? The FDA do not test and monitor over the counter drugs and they do not have proof of effectiveness of such pills. The exception is Alli which is approved as an effective, over the counter diet pill. A lot of people have heard of the problems associated with the Ephedra pill.
Because the over-the-counter weight loss pills are not governed by the FDA, and none have been approved by them besides Alli, there are no guarantees of what you are getting, whether they work, and what side effects you may experience. Many contain caffeine as the appetite suppressant, and do little more than drinking coffee and tea would do for you, but can cost a lot more. Some people may have allergic reactions and side effects to the ingredients in some weight loss pills.
People who are overweight often have discipline issues when it comes to calorie intake so the diet pills might not do anything to alter these behaviors or metabolism. This means that the people will continue to gain weight and will probably give up. Some weight loss pills promise that you will drop pounds even continuing to eat whatever you want, but this is rarely the case and this type of weight loss plan will not work.
It is important to realize that to lose weight, you need to take in fewer calories than you burn, with weight loss pills or without. If you do not lower your calorie intake, a pill is not going to miraculously take the weight off. Weight loss pills can be used as an additional aid, but they should not be taken with other medications without consulting your physician.
The best way to lose weight is by giving your body what it needs to be a healthy weight, such as nutritional and fat burning calories, correct portions, eating a number of times a time to keep your metabolism burning fat, and enough variety to keep you committed to a long-term diet.
Weight loss pills can be expensive and you have to ask yourself, are any diet pills safe? The answer may be no, especially if you are already on heart medication or high blood pressure medicine. You need a weight loss plan like FatLoss4Idiots at the link below that offers everything you need for a healthy, permanent weight loss.
About the Huge Health Trend toward Vitamins and Supplements
December 21, 2008 | Leave a Comment
There has been a massive trend of people moving toward natural remedies and taking herbal supplements and vitamin supplements to maintain and improve their health. Whether you want to lose weight, prevent signs of aging, or improve health by taking vitamins and antioxidants, there is sure to be a product on the market with a sales pitch that will make it appear to be just what you need to buy today.
Studies have been conducted on the benefits of using various herbs and herbal extracts. Research has shown that adding herbal supplements to a healthy lifestyle can be beneficial. Many natural health supplements are used to treat medical conditions as well as promote good health.
There are many places on the internet to find out about the hundreds of different herbal supplements and what they can do for you. Some are very mild and do very little; others are highly concentrated and they can interact adversely with prescription drugs and over the counter medications that you may be taking now. People are often sold by the benefits claimed by the supplement; they say “Oh, it’s safe; it’s just an herbal supplement!”
Like natural, herbal supplements, many medications and even illegal street drugs are derived from nature. Tobacco comes from a plant, but that does not mean that cigarettes are a natural, healthy product. Illegal street drugs are made from the beautiful poppy flower.
You might be surprised to learn that many herbal supplements are not regulated in the United States. The manufacturers do no have to prove their effectiveness or guarantee their safety. Many dietary supplements might not even contain the herbs they claim to.
Herbal supplements can be quite expensive, especially if you find yourself constantly adding more to your daily regimen. Some people just start out with two or three supplements, and then they read about others. Soon you many find yourself taking 15-20, or more, per day, while spending a small fortune. You could be doing yourself more harm than good as some of these herbal products can work against each other, cancelling out their benefits or causing new problems. On the other hand, some of them might be totally ineffective, which is just a waste of money.
A specialized multi-purpose supplement that is proportionately formulated would be a great solution. A well-balanced multi-purpose formula will provide the benefits you need while saving a great deal of money. There are many different supplemental programs available to meet different individual needs.
It is important that you do plenty of research before beginning a supplemental health program. Look into the different companies, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they have had complaints reported against them, see how long they’ve been in business, find out who their customers are and talk to your primary care physician. Though most medical doctors have scoffed at the idea, many are beginning to open up to the use of herbal supplements for improving health. It is possible that your doctor will be able to recommend a good source for learning about and obtaining herbal supplements.
No matter what supplements you decide to add to your daily health regimen, remember, they are just a supplement, and you must continue to live a healthy lifestyle, get plenty of exercise and eat right. An herbal supplement that claims to prevent cancer is not going to protect you if you are still smoking 3 packs of cigarettes per day. A weight loss formula will not help if you are eating fast food every day or if you are constantly snacking in front of the TV all evening. A muscle building drink does nothing for you if you do not work out with weights.
Even when taking supplements, it is important to live a healthy lifestyle, get plenty of exercise and proper nutrition. As with any prescription or non-prescription medication, please consult your physician or other qualified health care professional before beginning any supplementation program.
Is There A Gynecomastia Cure?
December 20, 2008 | Leave a Comment
If you aren’t a victim of the dreaded Gynecomastia, then you might not fully understand how it negatively affects people’s lives. While you may easily take off your clothes and go swimming, men with this condition just can’t. For those that don’t know what it is, Gynecomastia is a condition that results in men’s breasts becoming enlarged like those of ladies.
This happens when fat and tissues build up to enlarge the breasts; leaving men with such condition really ashamed of themselves. Believe this or not, the condition of having enlarged male breasts is more common than one can imagine. Lots of teens undergo this condition during puberty but it doesn’t become an issue because it disappears on it’s own without any form of treatment. It’s also confirmed that elderly men have enlarged breasts as they age and add weight.
An evaluation from a medical practitioner should tell you all about the enlargement. Another reason why you shouldn’t treat this with kid gloves is that it’s possible for it to be a hormone-secreting tumor from the breasts or other organs. It’s not unlikely for Klinefelter’s syndrome to be common in breast enlargement. Your doctor will tell you, after due examination, whether this is caused by something dangerous or just excess fat.
It’s obvious you now want to know what the treatments of Gynecomastia are and the risks, right? When it comes to true Gynecomastia, because of the excess gland tissue there’s no treatment that really cures it, other than surgery. In cases of excess fat which is Pseudogynecomastia there are ways to eliminate the chest fat naturally. Alternatively, when the male breasts enlargement is occasioned by a medication or condition you’re suffering from, another medication can be given to you to counter the effects.
Men that have excess weight are more likely to get this condition, so a little extra effort put into exercises, especially chest exercises can help the chest stay toned. Using exercise and other forms of natural treatments like pills should also be considered to help reduce your chest fat.
