<p>It seems that in these modern times that stress is just part of the landscape.  We seem to be under more pressure whether at home or a work.  The major shift of stress seems to be from physical stress to mental stress.  Our fore fathers were in much more under stress from physical dangers.  We on the other hand, seem to be under much more mental stress.  We react to both mental or physical stress in much the same way:  the fight or flight reaction.  Our source of stress has certainly changed, but not our reaction to it.</p>
<p>This reaction to stress causes the body to kick itself into high gear.  Our heart rate is increased, the major organs shut down all but the most basic functions and adrenaline is pumped out to boost our energy.  There is a major redirection of chemical reactions in the body to get it immediately ready for action.  However, with many of the stresses we encounter there is no physical release to all this redirection of energy.  This can be problematic since many toxin are the by product of these chemical reactions and these stay in the body.</p>
<p>Stress comes from so many different situations, that we are not able to eliminate its causes.  Rather we need effective stress management techniques.  Professional athletes are able to redirect the build up of stress into ways to enhance their performance.  This is a very positive way to deal with the build up of stress.  The only downside for most of us, is where professional athletes have a physical release of the stress from their bodies with physical exertion, but we may not.</p>
<p>Effective stress management requires a physical outlet to release the chemicals that the body is releasing when under stress. <p>At present the first two blogs on gardening are interesting and has a very good viewership. They talk on how to get the best out of gardening. This can be a hobby as well as a lifestyle. To have a good garden you need quality seeds and a very good soil structure. You should use the best compost so that more plants can grow near each other, yet produce good plants. The seeds packets have instructions on them which should be read properly. Plants scheduled to grow in winter will only do so in winter and will die if grown in summer. Some plants need more water, others may need more sunshine. You have to be careful and follow instructions. </p>
<p>It is possible to have a garden on concrete says another blog. It is possible to build a garden even if the available space is weedy, with hard clay and stones or made of concrete. <p>You need to have old cardboard boxes, plenty of old newspapers, leaves, wooden planks, old furniture, old carpets and the like. These can be collected from a nearby nursery as well. Once all the material is ready it takes just a day or so to grow a garden. </p>
<p>One should first put up a fence with planks and cardboard. Then smoothen the land first by placing the old carpet, cardboard boxes etc. The plot should not be too big. It can be just a meter in width and a bit longer. Old soaked newspapers can then be placed over the ready ground. The newspapers should overlap so that the sunlight need not create unnecessary weeds under the plants. Compost can be bought or made from kitchen waste like vegetable and fruit peels. </p>

You can be fit even without going to the gym if you follow certain rules. Instead of driving to the nearest store, you can walk thus using energy and sweating like you would do in a gym. <p>Of the many remedies available there are two major types. There are the mouth sprays and the nasal strips. The mouth spray helps to reduce the amount of vibration occurring in the palate while you are snoring which either reduces the noise and duration of the snoring or eliminates it altogether. The nasal strips on the other hand may take up to a week to work. They help open up the airways allowing more air to pass through which also helps lessen snoring.</p>

<p>The gleno-humeral joint, known in lay terms as the shoulder, is a vital part of the links in the upper limb and responsible for our ability to place our hands where we can see them to perform activities. Because flexibility is a prime requirement the shoulder is a less stable joint with moderate muscle power and a large range of motion. It is described as a &#8220;soft tissue joint&#8221;, implying that the joint&#8217;s functional ability is dependent on its soft and not its hard components. Physiotherapists are closely involved in treating and rehabilitating the shoulder, dealing with the muscles, ligaments and tendons. </p>
<p>The gleno-humeral joint is made up of the ball of the humerus and the socket of the shoulder blade which is called the glenoid surface. The top of the arm bone, the humeral head, is large and carries many of the tendon insertions for the stability and movement of the shoulder. The socket or glenoid is a relatively small and shallow socket for the large ball but is deepened slightly by a fibrocartilage rim called the glenoid labrum. Above the shoulder is the acromio-clavicular joint, a joint between the outer end of the collar bone and part of the shoulder blade, a stabilizing strut for arm movement. </p>
<p>A great many muscles act on the shoulder joint and on the other joints in the shoulder girdle, the acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular and scapulothoracic joints. The glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints are acted upon by the major stabilisers and movers in the area, varying from power muscles which allow forceful work to stability muscles such as serratus anterior and the rotator cuff to smaller movement muscles such as deltoid. The muscles must keep the relationship between the shoulder blade and the thorax and ribcage steady and under control for the glenohumeral joint to also enjoy stability and precise movement. </p>
<p>The rotator cuff is a group of four small muscles which originate from the scapula and insert around the ball of the humeral head, the teres minor, subscapularis, infraspinatus and supraspinatus. The cuff tendons form a sheet around the ball of the arm bone and allow forces to be exerted on the humeral head by the shoulder girdle muscles. If the rotator cuff is not functioning normally the more powerful muscles tend to make the humeral head slide upwards on the socket, interfering with normal function and making a person unable to lift their arm up above their head. </p>
<p>As a person ages, the rotator cuff develops degenerative changes in its tendinous structures, causing small tears in the tendons which can enlarge until there is no continuity between the muscles and their attachments. This leads to loss of normal shoulder movement and can be very painful but is not always so and &#8220;Grey hair equals cuff tear&#8221; is a common saying. Physios work at rotator cuff strengthening, whilst in massive tears the main shoulder muscles can be progressively strengthened to improve function. Surgery is possible for massive, moderate and small rotator cuff tears and physiotherapists manage the post-operative protocols. </p>
<p>The shoulder joint is not typically affected by OA (osteoarthritis) but when it is physiotherapists treat arthritic shoulders by joint mobilisations, muscle strengthening and ranges of motion. Once physio has nothing else to offer, total shoulder replacement is one of the further options, with various surgical techniques involving replacing the humeral ball and the scapular socket either anatomically or in reverse. The shoulder is often called a &#8220;soft-tissue joint&#8221; as the soft tissues, their strength and balance, are vital to the function of the joint. Post-operative physio management is essential as the correct protocol must be closely followed to ensure success. </p>
<p>Physiotherapists treat many other types of shoulder problems such as impingement, tendinitis, hypermobility, abnormal muscle patterning, fractures and dislocations. Impingement is treated by strengthening the rotator cuff or by subacromial injection or acromioplasty operation, where the end of the acromion can be excised. Tendinitis is treated by direct treatment of the tendon and graded strengthening and hypermobility by stability work and accepting the limitations dictated by the condition. Abnormal muscle patterning is managed by teaching normal patterns functionally and fractures and dislocations by the protocols laid down by the surgeons and trauma physiotherapists.</p>

<p>The Use and History of the Sauna</p>
<p>The origins of the sauna have been lost in the mists of time (so to speak), but it is safe to say its history goes back at least 1000 years.  We know that the nomadic peoples of Finland had a primitive type of sauna that was made by building a fire inside a tentlike structure.  When the heat had built up and the fire had gone out, the people would enter the sauna to bathe.  This was very similar to the American Indian sweat lodge.</p>
<p>From these beginnings, the smoke sauna evolved. These were small buildings with a fireplace. Smoke could exit through a small hole made in the roof but again, the fire had to die out before people could enter. These saunas were in use until the 1920s, when the modern style of sauna familiar to us came into use. Smoke saunas have seen a small revival in their country of origin, with many Finns considering these to provide the best sauna experience possible.</p>
<p>A new style of sauna stove made its appearance in the 1930&#8217;s. Using this sauna stove rocks were heated without being directly placed in a flaming fire. The sauna was in use while the fire burned. Wood was used for fuel with the earlier stoves however, modern units are powered electrically.</p>
<p>Types of Saunas</p>
<p>There are many different styles, shapes and sizes of saunas. A sauna can be its own separate structure or can be installed inside of a home. A traditional sauna is a wooden structure, generally outdoors which is both useful and aesthetically pleasing.</p>
<p>Ingenious new designs of saunas have been introduced since they are so popular all over the world. Portable saunas which are folding saunas that you can use just about everywhere are one of the most unusual. They are just big enough that you can sit down in it. You place your head through a hole and your hands through slits. You can talk on the telephone or read while sitting in your portable sauna.</p>
<p>The barrel sauna is another style. These saunas are small cabins which are built much like a barrel (i.e staves and hoops) and can seat as many as eight people. A barrel sauna can be built either inside or outside and can use either an electrical heater or a wood burning stove.</p>
<p>Since the 1960s, infrared saunas have also been in use. In these saunas, an infrared heater is used rather than wood or an electric heater. An infrared heater heats not the air in the sauna, but the people and other objects in it. Infrared saunas are claimed by many to have more health benefits than do traditional saunas.</p>
<p>Sauna Construction Styles</p>
<p>Most saunas are made of wood, generally cedar or hemlock, with only the stove and rocks being made of other materials.</p>
<p>Saunas provide dry heat at a temperature between 70 and 100 Celsius. Water can be thrown on the rocks to raise the temperature as desired and to generate steam.</p>
<p>A sauna can use either electric heat or a wood burning stove. While wood stoves are usual in rural settings, urban sauna owners generally opt for electric heat.</p>

You can unknowingly work against the body in this critical function and fall into the clutches of various real dangerous illnesses, or you can choose to act wisely and help the body to regulate these substances so that you are healthy naturally.</p>
<p>A high level of cholesterol is no disease in itself. The actual diseases are born out of this condition. When there is an excess of bad cholesterol in the blood, the circulatory system gets stressed and consequently the heart is strained. This leads to clogging of the arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis. <p>Many of us have an inkling of information about cancer treatment and side effects. This article is in response to numerous requests for more details regarding the stages of cancer, the treatments prescribed, and ways to avoid side effects. <p>The Stages of Cancer are as follows: Zero: small number of cells in one area.  I, II, III: how involved; original area plus nearest organ affected, rate of growth and etc.  IV: other areas/organs affected, numerous metastases, etc. (sometimes stage IV cancer is referred to as &#8212; terminal &#8212; where the patient is given six weeks to a few months to live.)</p>
<p>The typical treatment protocols for cancer vary as to the type of cancer and the current stage. Surgical treatment may be used to cut out the cancerous cells. Radiation may be used to kill the cancer cells or shrink cancerous tumors. Chemotherapy is another treatment that inhibits the growth of cancer through drugs or chemicals. Immunotherapy is a nutrient or drum treatment that either stimulates inhibits the immune system. Transplant therapy uses healthy bone or stem cell tissues to give a reminder to cells of a healthy environment.</p>
<p>There are many possible side effects in any cancer treatment protocol. Of the more common side effects reports often include nausea, slow healing, loss of hair, changes to nails, digestion issues, pain, loss of smell or taste, weight change, fatigue anxiety and stress.</p>
<p>In addition to the more common side effects, there are numerous other possible complaints stemming from cancer treatment protocols. Those are changes to blood pressure, allergies, shock, infections, seizures, and vision problems. Long term issues can include mental health problems, and heart attacks, especially in chemotherapy treatment. Other long term side affects are kidney failure and death from the toxins.</p>
<p>How do we downplay the side effects caused by cancer treatment? There are two powerful methods. First we have diet. A healthy diet includes lean non-red meats, fiber and whole grains, plenty of vegetables, especially the cruciferous variety, and lots of water. In addition: gravies, cottage cheese, yogurt and shakes, and non-acidic fruits. It is recommended that these meals be divided into multiple small meals throughout the day.</p>

<p>The problem of snoring is really annoying, and for as long as people have snored, various stop snoring devices to try and stop it have been around. Some have done almost everything from sewing tennis balls to their pajamas so that they sleep in one position all night to sticking sleep strips on their noses every night. But whether these methods to stop snoring are effective or not depends on the reason for the snoring.</p>
<p>If snoring is persistent and loud, it is prudent to go to the doctor for a check up to ascertain the cause of snoring. Bring your spouse or significant other to help answer questions about your problem. Many times people do not know how bad or how much they snore and your sleeping partner will most likely know.</p>
<p>You partner can discuss how and when you snore and stop snoring with the doctor to find out the cause. If a person stops breathing while sleeping it is known as sleep apnea. This problem can be noticed if a person who snores stops for a short period while asleep. When a snorer is having a period of no snoring it can likely be attributed to the sleeper not breathing.</p>
<p>A stop snoring device called CPAP has been very successful in preventing snoring. Not only does it prevent snoring, it keeps those suffering from sleep apnea breathing all night long by forcing air into the air passageways while they&#8217;re sleeping. It works through a special mask that the snorer wears while asleep.</p>
<p>How do stop snoring devices such as nasal strips work? They are worn on the nose and keep the nasal passageways open. This helps the snorer get enough air. For some people, this is enough. For others, it is no answer at all. Identifying the problem is the key to selecting the right solution to chronic snoring.</p>
<p>If you are a mouth breather stop snoring devices that are inserted in the mouth when you go to be can help cut down the vibrations that cause snoring.  These types of devices work to stop snoring by drawing your tongue or lower jaw in a forward position and thereby opening up the airways so that you can breathe better while you sleep.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t have a medical condition such as sleep apnea that is causing your snoring, you may want to try out the stop snoring devices that are available. Many people have found great success with these simple items and both sleeping partners can finally enjoy a peaceful bedtime.</p>
