Weight Training Routines, Shoulders

by Ricardo d Argence

Shoulder development is very important when you are bodybuilding. A double back bicep pose not only makes you look great while doing it, but it also make you look wonderful while standing erect. If you develop your side deltoids in proportion to the biceps, the arms and biceps look large and well defined.

The shoulder area consists of the muscles of the posterior, medial and anterior deltoid. The rotator cuff muscles and the upper trapezius are included in the whole shoulder girdle.

The deep rotator cuff muscles connect several parts of the thoracic region to the back, side, or front of the humerus. Upper trapezius muscles are the muscles that run from the back of the neck; extend to the medial deltoid, then downward to intersect with the middle trapezius. Going further back on the shoulder, below the lower portion of the upper trapezius, is the posterior deltoid muscle. The outer part of the shoulder is a where the medial deltoid lies, with the anterior deltoid muscle being visible outside of the pectoral muscles.

Each shoulder has a specific function when lifting the arm. The anterior deltoid is responsible for bringing the arm forward, inward and for rotating the arm. The medial deltoid allows the arm to move away from the side. The posterior deltoid comes into play when the arm moves back or rotates outward. When the scapula is moved upward toward the ears, like shrugging your shoulders, the upper trapezius muscle does the job. Lastly, the muscles of the rotator cuff stabiles the arm during movement and allow the arm to rotate.

There are a number of exercises that will effectively build the shoulder area such as the military press, lateral raises, lying lateral raises, the Arnold press, behind the neck press, and bent-over lateral raises. The upright row in addition to bent-over rows will also help you build the shoulder area to magnificent proportions.

Indicative to building massive shoulders is the knowlege of how they work and are kept healthy. Injuries can quickly slam the brakes on any progress you are making, so take extra care to avoid them. One of the most common injuries is to the rotator cuff muscles. Rotator cuff muscles are not particularly large or strong muscles. Try to prevent injuries by including some band work into your shoulder exercises.

To minimize injuries be sure that you are using the right amount of weight. You should be able to have control of the weight through the entire movement. If you find that you can only do partial reps or you need to shift the weight around, then the weight is too heavy. Using too much weight puts too much stress on the shoulder and is likely to cause injury. Be sure that you can maintain the proper technique and use the full range of motion before increasing the weight.

Although building up shoulder muscles takes a bit of effort, bodybuilders concur that the result justifies the work involved. Because each body grows at its own rate, research and patience are vital.

About the Huge Health Trend toward Vitamins and Supplements

There has been a massive trend of people moving toward natural remedies and taking herbal supplements and vitamin supplements to maintain and improve their health. Whether you want to lose weight, prevent signs of aging, or improve health by taking vitamins and antioxidants, there is sure to be a product on the market with a sales pitch that will make it appear to be just what you need to buy today.

Studies have been conducted on the benefits of using various herbs and herbal extracts. Research has shown that adding herbal supplements to a healthy lifestyle can be beneficial. Many natural health supplements are used to treat medical conditions as well as promote good health.

There are many places on the internet to find out about the hundreds of different herbal supplements and what they can do for you. Some are very mild and do very little; others are highly concentrated and they can interact adversely with prescription drugs and over the counter medications that you may be taking now. People are often sold by the benefits claimed by the supplement; they say “Oh, it’s safe; it’s just an herbal supplement!”

Like natural, herbal supplements, many medications and even illegal street drugs are derived from nature. Tobacco comes from a plant, but that does not mean that cigarettes are a natural, healthy product. Illegal street drugs are made from the beautiful poppy flower.

You might be surprised to learn that many herbal supplements are not regulated in the United States. The manufacturers do no have to prove their effectiveness or guarantee their safety. Many dietary supplements might not even contain the herbs they claim to.

Herbal supplements can be quite expensive, especially if you find yourself constantly adding more to your daily regimen. Some people just start out with two or three supplements, and then they read about others. Soon you many find yourself taking 15-20, or more, per day, while spending a small fortune. You could be doing yourself more harm than good as some of these herbal products can work against each other, cancelling out their benefits or causing new problems. On the other hand, some of them might be totally ineffective, which is just a waste of money.

A specialized multi-purpose supplement that is proportionately formulated would be a great solution. A well-balanced multi-purpose formula will provide the benefits you need while saving a great deal of money. There are many different supplemental programs available to meet different individual needs.

It is important that you do plenty of research before beginning a supplemental health program. Look into the different companies, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they have had complaints reported against them, see how long they’ve been in business, find out who their customers are and talk to your primary care physician. Though most medical doctors have scoffed at the idea, many are beginning to open up to the use of herbal supplements for improving health. It is possible that your doctor will be able to recommend a good source for learning about and obtaining herbal supplements.

No matter what supplements you decide to add to your daily health regimen, remember, they are just a supplement, and you must continue to live a healthy lifestyle, get plenty of exercise and eat right. An herbal supplement that claims to prevent cancer is not going to protect you if you are still smoking 3 packs of cigarettes per day. A weight loss formula will not help if you are eating fast food every day or if you are constantly snacking in front of the TV all evening. A muscle building drink does nothing for you if you do not work out with weights.

Even when taking supplements, it is important to live a healthy lifestyle, get plenty of exercise and proper nutrition. As with any prescription or non-prescription medication, please consult your physician or other qualified health care professional before beginning any supplementation program.

No Sleep Leads to No Gain for Muscle Building

Going to to the gym, you will think you can get relaxed and muscles will grow by themselves. Working your muscles throught weight training is not the only factor, neither is physically working out.

Dont underestimate the effect that sleep has on your workout. You need to rest properly, and that’s not just between workouts. Altering your sleep schedule to ensure getting a steady and sound night’s sleep each night can produce drastic transformations in the outcomes you observe with bodybuilding.

For many reasons sleep is one of the most important factors for successful bodybuilding. Though fatigued, your body’s muscles recover during sleep. This lapse of time is important when some parts of your body arent functioning, it’s when your body recovers from damages.

If you don’t give it time, your body will not be able to heal muscles and build new muscle. Your progress will be greatly impeded if you do not let your muscles properly heal, mend, and grow.

Adequate sleep is vital for keeping your mental focus sharp and your energy level high. A lack of mental focus can destroy your results while you’re in the gym. You can be motivated, but if you don’t have your work out planned out you will not have a successful workout.

Consequently you may feel neither energized or motivated when it’s time for your weightlifting session. There’s only so much your body can handle over the course of a day with a tiny amount of sleep. Due to many other commitments like work, school, and family, working out is usually last on the list and often missed.

Another reason why sleeping is so important in bodybuilding is that reat restores your energy and you maintain a good rhythim with your hormones. Proper metabolism and muscle gain require sleep. At the same time, sleep also inhibits other hormones that can lead to fat gain and other unseemly consequences.

No matter what you want to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, that means that sleeping for 2 hours on Friday night and then sleeping for 12 hours on Saturday night doesn’t amount to the same benefits as sleeping 7 hours both nights in a row. And that’s what you should shoot for, at least 7 hours a night. Remember, no sleep leads to no gains for bodybuilding, and you’ll be ruining your chances at success before you even get started!

No matter if you are a professional bodybuilder, a contact sports player, or just a simple person who is working on getting their body in shape, it is always important that you do not neglect your legs for a great number of reasons. Some folks forget about their legs when working out and focus on the bigger arms and chest. There are very good reasons to exercise your legs along with the rest of your body.

As you are more than likely aware the more muscle you have the more fat you burn, as muscle burns fat. To help your overall workout it is imperative to gain muscle weight; your legs are the prime example of that! Developing leg muscles is crucial to working out. Without leg muscles your body won’t be able to work as hard.

The amount of mass in your legs allows the release of anabolic hormones, and your legs muscles will provide more of this growth hormone than the smaller muscle areas of your body. The amount of muscle in your leg outweighs your arms easily, so this just makes sense. The reason you want to release these hormones is to stimulate muscle growth.

A person who is skinny on the bottom and built on the top can be hard to look at. Working out your legs provides a balanced body. If you’re going to be working out you want every part of your body to look great.

Pushing the muscles to near failure is the best route to a good leg workout. Perform 8 to 12 reps per set, doing 2-4 sets per exercise. It’s advisable to work each major muscle with 2-5 different exercises (depending on your tolerance level and workout experience). It is imperative to rest between sets. Rest 45-60 seconds between each set so that your muscles can recover. Once again you will be able to lift the heavy weight because of this, however, you should not relax to much being the anabolic hormones stop getting released.

There are a lot of exercises to help you strengthen your legs. Once you have selected the goals for your legs (lean and strong, or muscled up for strength), you will be able to select the right exercises. When working your legs it is important to warm up by running or some other form of cardio for at least five minutes. This prevents injuries by warming up your joints.

Exercises you can do include leg extensions, power cleans, squats, Romanian dead-lifts, hamstring curls, and calf rises, seated and standing. However, this list is not all-inclusive. Therefore, the amount of reps and sets should tailored to match your level.

Be safe when doing any exercise routine, and make sure to ask a trainer about the proper form. All it takes is a little time and effort, and you’ll have great looking legs in no time. If you can raise your metabolism and do workouts that target intensity training, you will find an improvement in many different activities. On top of improvement in your general activities you will feel a lot better physically and mentally.

Reasons Why You Will Need Muscle Building Supplements

December 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment

by Ricardo d Argence

You should be aware that muscle building is appropriate for both males and females. The typical misconception is that well defined muscles are reserved for macho men with bulging, Tarzan-like physiques!

But, the whole idea of muscle building has two aspects. One, it tones the muscles well and helps keep them healthy and well. Two, it denies accumulation of fat around the muscles. Your limbs are strong yet at the same time, they are kept non-fleshy and strong.

You’ll ask the inevitable question if in case the chances are you a hectic life: When I need to use my time to make money instead, how on earth will I ever find time devoted to muscle building? If you start the process of bolstering your diet with health supplements you will find an answer to your question.

See for yourself how many of these are available in the marketplace. They claim to produce good muscle definition and rapid fat-burning, therefore if they perform as claimed, they will certainly facilitate your muscle-amassing workout, and thus are beneficial.

At this point I must offer you a word of caution, however. Chemical products activate health food supplements in your body, which aid stress and fatigue control. For instance, Glutamine is one of them. Oxides of nitrate or even nitric acid are two others. Proteins and enzymes will be there too.

These items are generally harmless, and the small amounts administered can be absorbed through the body with no trouble. You’re likely to feel fit and muscle-toned, soon enough. Sure, you’ll also be thrilled!

Choosing your health food supplement is something you can do by yourself because there are numerous competing brands jostling for customers’ attention on store shelves. Don’t pick one of them at random.

Depending on your body’s constitution, the supplemental additives cited above may possibly have side effects on your health. You must know that nitric acid can impinge upon your sexual health.

I think it’s a very good idea, therefore, to consult the family doctor before beginning your health food supplements regimen. He’ll tell you what’s best for you. It’s even possible some additives can be found in natural products like fruits and vegetables so a properly adjusted diet will do the job, as simple as that. So while taking health food supplements are probably good for you, prior medical advice is recommended.

Taking everything into consideration you will be shown a body with well-toned muscles when you look at yourself in the mirror.
